Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

If the backline pets don't die before the active pet, you will face all the enemy pets.

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.

I'd suggest bringing a 2nd pet that can damage the backline just in case. I got (un)lucky with crits and nearly killed the front pet before the backline was dead. Thankfully I had a pet with Cyclone that was able to get it done as a leveling pet.

I don't have any problem with the Devour strats (Feline Familiar, other beasts), but this strat is faster. A thing of beauty is a joy forever. Or until the next patch.

Morticia24

wrote on 2021-10-18 00:28:45

I had used the Feline Familiar strat & it didn't work. This start worked on 1st try & took out the backline pets so that I didn't have to keep fighting them like I had to w/the other strat! SO much faster & eaiser! TY! :)

I really recommend using Unborn Val'kyr(x,x,2) and Infernal Pyreclaw(x,1,1). As the fight start use Uholy Ascension. Bring in the pyreclaw and use Great Sting on cooldown followed by Cleave. This is a very fast way to deal with this fight. If you have another pyreclaw use it as a backup or Left Shark.

TC wrote on 2020-07-12 22:08:27

I crit pet number 3 twice and a replacement came in

Sinvanor

wrote on 2020-08-09 12:05:56

I had a similar issue. The backline pets kept replacing and the fight never ended till all my pets were dead. This fight can bug in a really horrible way.

Springcaller wrote on 2020-11-13 20:27:19

It's not a bug, this fight has more then 3 opponents. Read the enemy buff: "Swarming - there are an abnormal number of rats and cockroaches in this battle".

all good in the pre patch

kess wrote on 2020-08-22 10:34:23

you want another pet with tidal wave just in case in your second slot. plenty to pick from. sometimes you have to pass to avoid killing the front pet too soon...

Gráinne

wrote on 2020-08-22 15:57:03

Killing the front pet is no big deal; another pet will become the front pet.

I think the Left Shark died on me once when I was farming Stratholme, but I had two more pets to finish it off. No problem.

Dende

wrote on 2020-09-15 14:27:27

The point is, that when you let the front pet alive and you kill the back pets before the front pet dies, you don't have to deal with all those other pets. Of course it's no problem when front pet dies, but if it doesn't the fight is a lot shorter

Rakenessa wrote on 2020-04-24 12:08:30

This worked for me for weeks, but recently (last 2-3 weeks) has been failing.

Edit: I guess I was having some unlucky streaks there - Left Shark solo'd this week w/o Chuck's help. (edited)

Gráinne

wrote on 2020-04-24 16:21:21

I've used this too. The Left Shark doesn't always solo it, depending what pets materialise in the opposition. It usually gets most of the way through, though. Pretty much any pet with a self-heal should be able to finish it for you.

Zeitlos#1455

wrote on 2020-08-05 14:40:51

I had a couple unlucky weeks in a row too where Left Shark was dying early. I put my second pet as a dragon with Arcane Storm to finish off the back row pets ezpz.

Great strat as always, Dragon.

Something odd happened today that I need to test again. My number 3 pet was level 23. On the enemy pet's last round (their undead round), my Left Shark got killed. When the fight ended my number 3 pet leveled up to 25 (gained 3900 XP).

I'll try again next week to see if that's a thing or not.

I'm glad it worked well for you!

If your active pet dies and you have non-25 pets in the backline, it will distribute xp to all remaining pets that can use it. It's why there are certain fights that use self-killing (Explode, Corpse Explosion, and so on) abilities so that you never have to do the level pet swap.

Kessyra

wrote on 2020-05-23 14:50:57

I have now made the other two pets lvling pets, so far only over lvl 22 in case needed to finish the fight, and now I purposefully skip the last heal so the shark dies to give them xp :)
If I knew how to write this into the TD Script I would. (edited)

Cognosis

wrote on 2020-05-14 20:11:36

You can easily replace the Left Shark with a Glittering Diamondshell if you like. (Just use healing wave where the strat says Rain dance)

Chalan#1245

wrote on 2020-02-12 11:49:35

Solo'd with Chuck! Consume and devour kept me heal no problem.

BeardedGodzilla

wrote on 2020-02-08 15:47:57

I modified the TD Script so that if your Left Shark dies it will bring in pet number 2 and attack to finish off the fight.

ability(Rain Dance:1062) [ round>2 ]
ability(Water Jet:118) [enemy(#2).dead & enemy(#3).dead]
ability(Tidal Wave:419)
if [self(#2).active]
use(#1)
endif
if [self(#1).dead]
change(next)
endif

I don't think this strat should be tagged "long" since it's significantly faster than the other strats.

Tiffany#1468

wrote on 2020-01-17 02:15:51

Agreed! You don't to fight the endless parade of critters, this is much faster!

Soapy wrote on 2019-11-03 23:02:00

I soloed all the pets just using Taptaf.
