Substitutes:

1
Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

Wolfbrother

wrote on 2020-10-22 11:24:36

Didn't work for me for SL prepatch. Perky died and the rest didn't do enough damage.
Nibbles with Phase shift, howl and Bonebite on repeat with Perky worked like a charm however.

You have to keep in mind the self-healing of Pilfer. If you use Predatory Strike as soon as he's below 420, this will fail. Hit him one more time then use Strike. (edited)

Advancement wrote on 2017-10-27 07:48:59

Managed to do this with :
Dust Bunny(2.1.2), Darkmoon Hatchling(2.x.1), Frostfur Rat(1,x,2). All pets above 263 speed.
1)Smoke Bomb
2)Swap and cast Trample 4 times, Darkmoon Hatchling left with little hp and debuff.
3)Swap to Dust Bunny and cast Smoke Bomb
4)Stampede, bunny dies from antaen cannon.
5)Use Darkmoon Hatchling and cast Trample 2 times
6)Cast Flock, hatchling dies
7)Use Frostfur Rat and cast Call Darkness(if it doesnt kill finish with Sneak Attack)

Wendy wrote on 2020-08-31 03:50:41

Great strategy. I didn't have a levelled Frostfur Rat so used Wriggler's Slime move (1,x,x) to finish it off.

essmak

wrote on 2019-05-26 20:55:37

Frostfur Rat need at least 1.398‬ HP for this to work, so Frostfur Rat needs to be B/B, H/H, H/P or H/B

Rysana wrote on 2019-02-21 11:24:12

This does not work for me. (If it ever can work, it does require a s/s Rat, or at least the p/s Rat. Must be faster than Pilfer, p/p doesn't cut it.) Multiple tries, mostly around when to bring back the Rat. Jar of smelly liquid means refuge won't work, and trying to bring rat in after jar is thrown on the Quilen, means it still won't work. Cannon is hitting that rat on the second refresh, no matter what. Hatchling dies too early, or the Quilen does, and Rat is needed to finish.

If you happen to have Nibbles then this fight is easy
Nibbles - 2/1/1
Perky Pug - */*/2

Phase Shift
Howl
Bone Bite until Phase Shift is up then repeat

when Nibbles dies bring in Perky Pug and Trample until you win

AlisonC wrote on 2018-10-07 18:04:09

Line 8 should say - Did Antean Cannon kill your Perky Pug?

Ahdra wrote on 2018-07-20 01:32:34

I didn't have the rat so I followed Cymre's guide using Hare, Perky Pug and Darkmoon Hatchling:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9YkGFAFn0PU
I watched it and wrote down the turns because the second canon used on your rabbit (and when it is used) is important. Got it the first time I actually wrote stuff down :)

Arhx wrote on 2018-05-01 03:36:01

"Did kill your perky pug?" should probably clarify what you mean by this. not everyone will understand it means antaen cannon.

Amekra wrote on 2017-11-17 12:13:25

I didn't have Frustfur or DMH, but this worked for me:
Orphaned Marsul - 1/1/1
Perky Pug - 2/1/2
Egbert - 2/1/1

OM: feign death- Egbert is forced in
Egbert: trample until he dies - bring back OM
OM: Burrow - Marsul dies
P.P: Trample until Pilfer dies

I used Eggbert in place of Perky Pug, + Frostfur and Darkmoon Hatchling as in main strategy. Worked fine just using Trample with Eggbert.

Nalli wrote on 2018-01-11 16:44:15

Don't have my Perky Pug leveled up, but for those of you Collector Edition holders, the Lucky Quilen Cub has the exact same move set as the Perky Pug. Worked just like stated on 1st attempt. :)

Lorianth#1672

wrote on 2017-12-02 13:27:11

Should be "Trample until Pilfer drops below 420 health". If you predatory strike above 421 health, Pilfer doesn't die, and the fight is irrecoverable.

Thanks, I changed it!

therabbit86ed wrote on 2017-12-07 22:37:12

And that's provided he dropped well below 420 health to compensate with the gain in HP due to Pilfer being a humanoid, otherwise Predatory strike won't do anything and you'll have to finish with the rat.

Sultan wrote on 2017-09-18 16:01:05

For your critter challenge the name of the game is DoTs!

Carrion Rat - 2/2/2
Darkmoon Rabbit - 2/2/2
Bandicoon - 1/1/1

The bandicoon can be replaced with whatever critter you have that uses a basic attack that isn't critter based. You only really need it for the bite, but worst case scenario it has poison fang and survival to see you through to the end.

Start with Carrion Rat:
1) Survival
2) Comeback
3) Comeback
4) Poison Fang
Rat dies. Bring out the Darkmoon Rabbit
5-7) Stampede
8) Dodge
9) Huge, Sharp Teeth!
10-12) Stampede
Rabbit dies. Bring out the Bandicoon and bite your way to victory!

Woref wrote on 2017-09-11 01:23:17

I was able to solo this with a S/S Sneaky Marmot 2/2/2. If you have or are able to acquire this pet it makes the fight trivial (although long).

General rules are each rotation of Pilfer's abilities soak a Jar of Smelly Liquid then negate the affects and next Punch with a Smoke Bomb then Blinding Powder the following Jar + Antaen Cannon.

Round Details:
1. Smoke Bomb
2. Jab
3. Jab
4. Blinding Powder

5. Jab
6. Jab (Soaking Jar of Smelly Liquid)
7. Smoke Bomb
8. Blinding Powder
9. Jab
10. Jab
11. Jab
12. Blinding Powder

13. Repeat steps 5-12 until the fight is won.

If any of Pilfer's Jar of Smelly Liquids crit Sneaky Marmot will die early. Use any critter with basic attacks to finish the fight in case that happens. I used 2 rabbits with 2/2/1 as backup.

Cernunnas

wrote on 2017-11-15 07:07:58

The first time I tried, my DMH got below 50% on the same round I was going to use predatory strike, so Pilfer went in first, healed up above 25% so predatory strike didn't kill him. I lost that fight because of a few lucky crits on my DMH, but I tried again and it went perfectly.

Sarth wrote on 2017-10-26 22:07:11

Just a correction on last 2 lines:

Then: Trample until Pilfer drops below 538 health
Do you have debuff?
Yes: Trample then Predatory Strike
No: Predatory Strike

It seems though, you'll always have to Trample once more, after bringing it below 538 HP THEN PS.

Ariandielle wrote on 2017-08-31 17:53:20

For those with Nibbles, this fight is ridiculously easy.

Start with a critter with stampede and use it. It will die a horrendous death.
Bring Nibbles in and Bone Bite, Bone Bite, Phase Shift, Howl, Bone Bite, Bone Bite.
The end :)

Mnejing wrote on 2017-10-01 20:28:45

Tried this a few times. If Perky Pug is killed by Antaen Cannon you'll probably lose. Essentially you need to Refuge Cannon with your rat and then finish with Hatchling. Jar of Smelly Liquid makes Predatory Strike not kill, leaving Pilfer free to wipe out the rest of your team.

Just Trample with your Darkmoon Hatchling if it has debuff and then Predatory Strike. Worked 5 out of 5 attemps.

Yewfire wrote on 2017-09-13 02:05:11

Worked second time. Thanks!

NOTE: If you have the Jar of Smelly Liquid debuff when you use Predatory Strike, it will only do 50% damage and you will most likely lose the fight.

Ergo, if he falls below 538 HP, check for the debuff before using your Predatory Strike. If you have it, then throw in an extra Trample before you strike... ftw.

That's what I was about to write, it took me two death's to realise lol doh!

FuxieDK wrote on 2017-09-09 09:18:39

For some reason, Predatory Strike, only deals 210 (half of 420) damage, NOT double damage, even though Pilfer is <25%

Zenda wrote on 2017-09-17 23:29:33

Jar of smelly liquid is minus 50% damage

Used Grassland Hopper S/S 1 1 1 Swarm dies switch to Nibbles 2 1 1 Bone Chew Bone Chew Phase Bone Chew until he dies Armadillo Pup H/H Infected Claw until death of boss (based on strategy of Ariandielle).

I used Lucky Quilen Cub instead of Perky Pug, same movesets!

Rakenessa wrote on 2017-09-05 10:56:52

I had to swap back to my Frostfur Rat anyways to beat this fight. Just FYI in case anyone else has the same.

Auroya wrote on 2017-09-04 05:42:43

Used Peanut with Trample instead of Perky Pug as I didn't have it levelled. Just Trample until it dies and follow the rest of the strat ^^

Jangeoffry wrote on 2017-09-04 19:07:01

Same here, the only critter aside Darkmoon Hatchling with Trample which I have leveled is Egbert. Just replaced Perky Pug and follow the strategy.

TSBasilisk wrote on 2017-09-03 18:28:23

I got him down with this build:

Unborn Val'kyr with Curse of Doom and Unholy Ascension
Wicked Soul with Haunt
Any mob with Black Claw and Stampede/Flock (Zandalari Kneebiter for example)

Start with Val'kyr
1.) Curse of Doom - Val'kyr dies and goes into Undead phase
2.) Unholy Ascension - Val'kyr dies

Switch to Wicked Soul
3.) Haunt

Switch to last pet
4.) Black Claw
5-6.) Flock/Stampede
Pilfer dies

Yepah wrote on 2017-09-03 20:33:51

Unfortunately, those aren't critter type pets. This thread is for all critter team strategies :-)

Sollicity wrote on 2017-09-04 09:15:28

Great plan except this thread is for Critter type pets so sadly its useless.

Perky is far and away the MVP (Most Valuable Pug) in this battle.
I teamed him with Nibbles (Legion Collector's Edition bonus, sorry to those who don't do that sort of thing) and a stoned Mr. Wiggles. Well, he probably wishes he was stoned, he only gets one turn...

Nibbles 2-1-1
Mr. Wiggles 2-/-/
Perky Pug /-/-2

Turn 1. Phase Shift
2-5. Bone Bite
6. Howl
7. Pass
Nibbles dies
Bring in Wiggles
1. Diseased Bite
Wiggles dies
Pug comes in
1+. Trample to victory

Nope. Garbage

Anonymous wrote on 2017-08-31 21:00:40

There may be some rng involved, though I didn't encounter any. seems to work fairly well.

Eekwibble wrote on 2017-09-02 20:00:30

There is a little RNG. You want Mr. Wiggles' Diseased Bite to hit over its mean average. The lowest it can hit for is 584 and the highest is 876. You'll want it to hit in the upper half of that (>700).

Sorry for the mistakes in the strategy. It's rewritten and should work quite well now :-)

Keldar wrote on 2017-08-30 17:35:05

On top of reversing the yes/no question (you should bring in the Rat to Refuge if the Cannon did NOT kill the Pug), I needed an extra Trample from the Hatchling before casting Predatory Strike. Watch the boss's health - if you use Predatory before he's at 25% health or lower, it does less damage than Trample (and then goes on cooldown so you don't get a chance to use it later when it's useful).

Naveen wrote on 2017-08-31 15:07:00

Perfect, thanks.

Shunai wrote on 2017-08-30 23:39:43

This strategy straight up failed for me across the board. I needed to finish off Pilfer with my Rat, using Refuge then Stampede to do so.

solitha wrote on 2017-08-30 01:21:43

This one did not work anywhere near expected. The yes/no question seems reversed from what I would expect. In any case, Pilfer was nowhere near dead at the end, my Darkmoon Hatchling did its best and died, and the Frostfur Rat barely saved the fight.

Nuriana wrote on 2017-08-30 16:55:50

It worked for me when I reversed the yes/no question and used a S/S Frostfur Rat. Refuge needs to hit first or your Rat will die right away and the rest of the strategy fails.

Eekwibble wrote on 2017-08-30 21:42:00

As rare and at max level, there is no breed of Frostfur Rat slower than Pilfer.
